No knitting during The L Word
December 19, 2007
I’m trying to knit the set-up row on the Rhiannon sock, and it’s kicking my ass. It looks about the same as it did last week:
Perhaps I should stop knitting while inching along in rush hour traffic? Or maybe stop knitting while watching The L Word? Especially during scenes that make me cry like a little baby, like this one. [stupid wordpress won't let me embed this video, so you'll have to click over. argh.] But let me be clear — crying like a baby is a strange reaction — everyone else will think this scene is hot-hot-hot! You’re gonna click over now, aren’t you?
So my break from grad school apparently means knitting, beautiful actors doing lesbian sex scenes. Oh yeah, and a quiet peaceful home stocked with lots of red wine. Does it get any better than this? Seriously.

I started Netflixing The L Word after you all were talking about it. I’ve only watched Season 1 Disc 1 so far, but I like it, although a few of the characters were annoying.

I can understand the crying. I’m not crazy about the “Bette boffs with the weight of the world on her shoulders” scenes. I used to wonder whether they would ever show a love scene that didn’t have undertones of anger or sorrow or manipulation. Now Shane and the suburban mom on their first date? (It’s a few episodes after this one…
Exuberantly happy and ssssmokin’.

I just love having Marlee Matlin on the L word! She’s SO freakin’ hot and I find the interactions between her character and Bette to be great…All the ASL isn’t hurting me either! I love that I know what they’re saying to each other 80-90% of the time. Plus it seems even more passionate without speaking…

I’m not up to season 4 yet, but I’m not sold on Marlee Matlin. Maybe i’ll feel differently when I watch the episodes.

Sounds like you are four up on every break I ever had from grad school, since I had a loud roommate, no wine (roommate would drink it all), didn’t know how to knit, and had basic cable.
You’ve got it good, girl.
