Holding for Laryngitis
November 6, 2007
Sorry everyone, but my immunities are fighting off laryngitis right now, and my mouth is trying to accept the “be quiet” dictate. It’s taking all of my energy to be quiet, which leaves zero energy for blogging. Hrumpf. I have chosen a winner, but I must leave you in suspense for the time being.
Lastly, everyone say Hi to Xifey [raises hand and waves]. She’s reading again, and called me at work this morning to tell me how much she enjoyed your well wishes in the Mix Tape comments.

Nice. At least if she’s reading she can still see a copy of the track list.

You Scorpio, you!

Now, if it were me, I’d channel all the not-talking energy into writing and be four times as wordy as usual. I guess it’s a good thing I rarely get laryngitis. (Hot salty water. Really.)
Are you knitting?
Also, hi, bye, we’re movin’ on.

Stress is a killer for the immune system
It’s good that she’s reading so she can see how many people put here care about you!

Hope you feel better. Xifey, if you are reading, put those notes away and leave our friend alone!

Maryse - Can you give lessons? You are my hero.
Xifey - Find your own blog to stalk. This one is already taken.
Mafia - Feel better soon. WE all miss you and need you healthy and “speaking”.

My dad found my LJ because I’d printed out a part of something I’d written there just after my mom died, and the URL printed out as well. So he read the entire LJ entry. And then some more entries besides. Which frankly, I did not like.
So a week or two later I emailed him to let him know that while I recognize my LJ is public and anyone can find it, it is still my safe space. It is where I talk to my friends and there was a reason I had not invited him to participate there previously.
I pointed out to him that he gets together with his friends every Friday night at a local pizza joint, and I know where it is, and it’s a public place, so I would be well within my rights to go there whenever I wanted. However, he would rightly feel as though is space had been invaded if I were to do that. Occasionally he has invited me to join them, once for his birthday, the other times were equally rare circumstances. But being invited once does not constitute a standing invitation, and thus I allow him his privacy and his space, even if it is technically in a public place, because I respect him and his privacy. I asked that he treat my LJ in the same way, and wait for an invitation before reading any entries again, and he agreed.
Xifey ought to take a lesson from my dad. (Hi, Xifey. People who eavesdrop should expect to hear things they would rather not have heard.)

Thorn, you said that so well. Reading your ex’s blog is just like eavesdropping. Of course, for those of a masochist bent, that could be fun. I have no idea if that is the case, and really don’t want to know.
Mafia, hope you feel better soon. Lemon tea with honey is good for the throat.

You still can’t talk? Man! That sucks. Glad I ain’t kissin’ you.
Seriously, read this: http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?articleId=281474976901238.
Have you tried the apple cider vinegar? Did you get the Throat Coat? I’m a singer, I know of what I speak. And not hot. If you try the salt water, let it cool before you gargle it.
As for the rest: snicker, snicker.

Feel better, Mafia love. I get nasty throat bugs every year and they suck. As for Ms. Xifey dear, if you don’t want people talking about you, stop doing those things people will talk about. Oh, and while your at it, grow up and think about your kid instead of acting like one.

Kat | November 6, 2007 at 9:24 pm
Hope your feeling better soon. I’m a big fan of green tea with honey for throat ailments.
As for Xifey - meh. I will take the high road. I’m in much a better position to throw things at her from up here.

Mafia….feel better! I used to get the laryngitis every year, couple times a year and it’s no fun. Although, all my friends thought it was hysterical, because my voice would get very deep and turn into what they referred to as “Sex phone operator voice”.
Xifey–go away.

Kate | November 7, 2007 at 9:26 am
Pobre Mafia! As a long time sufferer of laryngitis (usually stressed-induced: yes, evil Xifey- now, you are physically making her sick!), can I suggest the hot chicken broth route? Soothing and has anti-viral properties (will help boost that immune system!).
Xifey: heaven has a special place for people like you: hell.

Perhaps Xifey will become aware that we hold her in the same disregard that she holds you.
Reminds me of an old George Strait song, can’t recall the title but some of the lyrics are “I’ve come to expect it from you” and “I wouldn’t treat a dog the way you’ve treated me”.
She should have no expectations of kindness. Hope you feel better soon and congrats on the new car and new abode. A happier life is not long away

You do know that laryngitis is in your throat, not your fingers, right?
And as for Xifey, I hope she has learned not lo leave her personal shit lying around where it can be ruthlessly mocked by teh internets.

Hot salt water, I’m telling you. And Advil. And don’t whisper, it only puts more strain on your cords.
as for Xifey, surely you have more productive ways to spend your time.
28.
Ruth | November 7, 2007 at 4:21 pm
er … that last bit was directed at Xifey. I just realized that it reads as though I was saying it to YOU. Sorry about that.

Xifey — stop being a tool. Seriously.

Ginger tea with ginger brandy and honey. It will make you ALLLL better. One way or another. Get better, dearie.

Feel better soon. Not talking is a pain, but straining will make it last longer. I will be at MIT for that massive invasion of youngsters the weekend before thanksgiving. Want a cup of coffee, my treat?
32.
Mary R | November 8, 2007 at 6:20 am
get well soon.
33.
Danielle | November 8, 2007 at 11:49 am
I like Marcy’s idea of ginger tea with ginger brandy and honey. That sounds good even if you DON’T have laryngitis.

There will be a sore spot on the fleshy part of your thumb (palm side). Press it to make your throat feel better. Also the bottom corner just below the thumbnail on the side away from the fingers. Lung 10 and Lung 11 in case you are interested in acupuncture points.
Also TB 5, on the back of your forearm, about 2 inches from the wrist. That’s an immune booster point. Just feel around - you’ll find it.
Feel better!

I’ve always found that hot tea with liberal lashings of hot water and honey hit the spot. You may not actaully feel any better but you will sleep blissfully.
As for the other issue, and applying to both of you: things suck now. The temptation is to foment drama and act badly (and one of you seems to actually be giving in to this temptation, you know who you are) but you share a child and will be seeing each other for many years. In order not to make the little guy feel put in the middle you are BOTH going to have to act like grown ups. And of course, eavesdroppers are guaranteed to hear something not to their liking.
