The Times They Are A’Changin’

September 4, 2007

With two weeks of not blogging, there are more stories to tell than little Ms. Mafia has time to write up. Grad school has started, and the administrators repeated over and over again the importance of setting low expectations for our non-work & non-school obligations. Because I always do what I’m told [snicker], I’m here to set some low expectations.

Will I blog less? Yeah, probably a lot less. Email less? Yep. [as if I was ever good at emailing.] Comment less? Yes. Knit less? I’m afraid so. Spin less? Uh-huh. [she pauses to shed a tear.] Perhaps I’ll switch to a photo blog? Or post less frequently? I don’t know. For the next month or so, there will be changes, and I can’t anticipate what it’ll look like ’round here.

But I know one thing — I’m not going to stop blogging. After 2.5 years, it’s part of my life, and I would really miss you guys. In fact, I may need you now more than ever.

I have knitting pictures on my new computer, so stay tuned for those. In the meantime, here’s a heart-melting Nora picture and some yarn p0rn.

Med Student Kristen bought this emerald cone for me during the early days of the stash bust, and it lived with Cate for many moons so I could honestly say that I didn’t own it. But I’ve taken a flying leap off the stash bust wagon, so why not just confess. I present two pounds of pure tweedy emerald lust:

It’s mine. I love it. I can’t wait to use it. And while I contemplate an appropriate DK pattern, I’ll knit up a pair of Marina Piccolas with this Jaeger Matchmaker (which are sitting on the cone to emphasize how truly enormous the emerald lust is). Beth enabled the Jaeger purchase and we’re about to begin a wee two-person-Marina-Piccola-public-transport-KAL, so hopefully these won’t take too long to complete.

For additional lusting, go see Beth’s amazing Shetland Triangle and Cate’s stunning Autumn Rose sleeves. Enjoy!

OMG, that CONE!… It is about a thousand times more beautiful than I had imagined. Please please please knit a little swatch and bring it on the train for me to fondle! :-)

I am ready for Marina any time you are!

    Love the cone! Wow!!!!!

Good luck with grad school! That cone is gorgeous. Tweedy emerald lust indeed.

I am not a green person, but that cone can possibly persuade me to learn to lust after it.

Nora is getting so big. I can’t wait to see how she handles winter and snow.

We know that you will still be lurking around the sidelines while you get this school stuff done and we are all to happy to support you. We will be you knitting cheerleaders!

Oh Mafia, I hope we still see some of you! We all have to scale back sometimes but I hope you get your hobbies in moderation!!! I’ll still read/photo gaze!

i’ll come and check in on you every now and again.

Wow. That is some gorgeous yarn, lady. And that’s a very cute dog as well. Really, just adorable.

So glad to hear you’re not going to give up blogging. We can be patient. You do good in school (like me! See? Me talkses good!), and we’ll be waiting to hear your many stories.

(Really though, I’m just going to wait to see what you do with that emerald tweed. grin!)

Awwww. Nora is adorable. You could just put up Nora pictures and skip the rest.

  • 9. Emily  |  September 4, 2007 at 6:19 pm

Don’t go! I need you! This afternoon I discovered evidence of “Dracula” lurking in my attic!

Seriously, best wishes for school and I’m glad to hear that we will still get glimpses of you now and then. Have fun!

Take care - and remember, all bleeding stops, and grad school does end. There will be after grad school knitting!

With so much going on, I’m impressed you had time to update at all! So pleased to hear that you’ll keep the blog, though it will understandably be on the backburner for awhile. Cute dog pics and yarn pr0n will always be welcome.

Nora is quite stunning. And the cone of emerald - I think I drooled.

Glad that you still plan on blogging :-) That is some serious yarn pr0n you’ve got going with that cone! Lustfully tweedy green!

Love the tweed cone of goodness! I have to give up everything but the knitting when I get real busy. But you might have noticed that I manage to post more pictures than substance on my blog too. You guys (SnB) got me hooked on blogging and I guess that won’t end soon. But I’ve had to neglect my blogger friends since Ravelry and I skim when I read now because I’m so behind.

Good luck in all your endeavorers as you enter into the new phase of your life.

    Oh, NORA.

Don’t worry–the blog will be a outlet when you need one, and we’ll be here!

Well, I, for one, miss you already. (Are there too many commas in that sentence? The comma-I never really get it. Maybe it should be: Well I, for one, miss you already. Yeah, that’s probably better. The apostrophe? I have that one down and it drives me NUTS when it is misused, which is all.the.time.)

I could knit some of that yarn for you. You know, in the meantime. I’ll come by, sit and knit while you study and we can each envy the other. How does that sound?

    :)

Grad school was the busiest two years of my life (we just won’t count the additional three years it took me to get around to writing my thesis). In the free time that you do have, do whatever makes you happiest. We’ll still be around. :)

    Miss you! Take care.

Grad school is intense. There won’t be much time. Keep your sanity and we’re here if you need to blow off some steam.
