Better to be safe than sorry, but if you ran the stats on bats with and without rabies, you would find it is far more rare to find a bat with rabies than the media makes it sound. They are cute when they aren't flying around. I'm not big on them swooping toward me though. Not even with a sure knowledge that they won't hit me mid flight since they know very well they would come off the worst in that fight. Your pics made me recall an evening in India when I was sitting with my family on the upper outdoor terrace of a lakeside restaurant just after sunset, and suddenly the view was filled with huge, swooping bats. Flocks of them. With 2-foot wingspans. It was thrilling! Awesome! I wish we could have one as a pet, but I think our cats (not to mention my husband) might have a problem with that.
