Destruction Junction
May 24, 2007
Perhaps I’ve mentioned that I’m a tad destructive. I LOVE demolition. Just ask any of the 500 new homeowners that I regularly beg for a spot on the DIY demo team. Perhaps my enthusiasm is scaring them, ‘cuz I’m never actually invited.
This week. This week of vacation. Of lists and goals and priorities. Yeah, right.
On Day 1, I ditch the list and start tearing up the back yard. Wifey came home from work and said “oh.my.god.what have you done?” After hiding in the house for about 20 minutes, I crawled out, ready to face the storm — and blamed it on our elderly neighbor. “Well he said that our vegetable garden would get more morning sun if we thinned the back a little…” Who could resist such temptation? I couldn’t.
This is one of 3 piles
This is one of 7 trips to the recycling center. It’s a Passat wagon, and I can fit 5 of those tall brown paper yard waste bags in there. You do the math.
Mind you, while I’m paying penance hauling brush, Wifey’s happily chopping and tying. From my piles, she fashions a woven fence and a garden gate.
Thank god she’s around. She creates beauty from my destruction.
Knitting = a couple rows here and a couple rows there.
Spinning? Only if you call this spinning:
Note to self: you don’t know how to spin, so you’re not ready to watch a movie and spin at the same time, not matter how stupid the movie. Signed, The Mafia.

LOL, that’s some homespun stash you’re going to there. But watching a movie while you’re (learning to) spin … well that was just asking for trouble. tehe

Why can’t we see our mistakes before submitting? I read that 3 times and didn’t see the missing word “have”.

WOW! Quite a lofty project to start out with. Neighbors, don’t ya just love ‘em? When we first moved in, he told me I could never grow roses in the backyard because no one else had been able to. Game On! Eight years later, I have nine wonderful bushes in a raised bed that would make Jackson and Perkins proud (especially since all the roses are from their farms).
LOVE, let me repeat LOVE, that fench and gate. Wifey has talent! Can’t wait to see the finished bed.
As for trying a new thing while distracted…doesn’t usually work. I try to stick to WIP’s that I can mindlessly work on if I want to spend quality time with wifey in front of the tube.
Have a great weekend and keep us posted on the progress of everything.

Wifey done good
I promise that if we rip out the three offending bushes near our driveway, we’ll give you a call.
In the meantime, acquiring a lawnmower is still #1 on the list — someone I know drove by our house recently and then commented “hey, you need to cut your lawn real soon, huh?” It comes up to my mid shins. Damn!

That spinning still looks better than my first yarn!

I love demo! I once helped gut an entire house with a crowbar and a sledgehammer. It is still near the top of my Very happy days list. Right after getting hitched and giving birth.
Wifey has some talent there. I love what she did around the garden. I may have to attempt it.

Looks like my first spinning! When I saw that pile I thought of my husband. You two are peas in a pod!

It’s good to have a wife who compliments you so wholly!
Hey you’ve gotten further along in the spinning than I have
I need my spinning guru to come back from vacation to help me

You’re a girl after my late dad’s heart. He loooved removing shrubbery and did it whenever given the chance. One time, I told him there was a quince bush in my yard that we were thinking of removing. He showed up while we weren’t there and removed the WRONG ONE!!! He sheepishly said, “It’ll grow back” and y’know, it did.

hahaha awesome! all of it. the brush removal (i wish i had the enthusiasm to rip things to shreds and then the creativity of wifey to add beauty to the destruction) and the spinning.

I think it’s great that you’re watching a movie while spinning! That’s confidence right there! How’s it going, any issues? Still liking it?

If you’re going to haul brush, you need a truck.
Period.
