Don’t the holes look like this?

When I screamed “NO! Not The Handknits!” Wifey informed me that “Drop!” was the preferred response. Apparently Nora isn’t the only one who needs training.

And did I mention that someone was caught in her crate with a handknit gift that’s been ~~stuck in the edit mode while I recover from my stint at FT gig+teaching two classes+preggie+surrogacy+c-sectionWifey and at some point very soon I have to stop using that as an excuse~~ flying under the blogdar?

I haven’t even blogged it! Bad doggie, no treats. It’s a good goddamn thing that she’s so cute!!

Ouch, I know it sucks to have them misbehave, but she is awfully cute. Can it be mended? If not, make a match in another color and have a crazy sock pair……

Keep up the postings, I love the pictures of MA, and the wifey hopes that they will encourage me to want to visit MA some day…as I am a born Southerner and don;t really like the cold and the fast pace of the north.

Ooooh, I remember Daisy’s puppy days…she ate one of my sheepie tape measures…but she did it in such a way that it looked disemboweled! LOL

She ate a rosebush too…hmmm…

I always say puppies and kittens are so cute so that they stay alive to adulthood!

She sure it cute!
That’s the only thing that saved a couple of my dogs when I came home to find an 1889, leather bound addition of Midsummer Night’s Dream (that my grandmother gave me!!) shredded neatly into pieces approx. 1″ square. Oh, doggies, never a dull moment.

that last picture looks just like my puppy - and the look she gives me when she knows she just did something wrong. like, “don’t hurt me! just look at me! look at how cuuute i am!!!”

I think they should teach “Nooooo! Not the handknits!” at puppy obedience school! Clearly I will have to be vigilant when we get all hounded up. The purloined secret knit looks gorgeous, by the way - then again, Nora’s so cute that perhaps a picture of her rubbing her puppy butt on it would suffice as a gift.

She really is a beauty. Our golden carries my handknit wool socks to my husband when he comes home from work, as a present. I have read somewhere that dogs like socks and shoes because they smell like you (also, shoes pick up the smells of everywhere you’ve walked). Don’t know if that’s true–personally, I think they just like to chew on leather–but both should be tucked away until Nora is at least 3.

Well, advice for the new dog owner, curtosy of our trainer:

Commands must be single word, such as “Drop” or simply use the same gutteral tone for all corrections (such as ‘EHHH” or “HEHHH”).

Make eye contact with the dog. Keep your chin up (bend forward at the waist if you need to to get eye contact, but do NOT drop your chin). Keep your hands on your hips.

Give the command in a firm, assertive tone.

Maintain eye contact with the dog until the dog submits to the correction and sits down. Do not say the command and walk away as soon as the dog drops the object or whatever - that means he hasn’t fully submitted and he’ll just go back to doing the same thing.

If it’s not an important object and the dog is simply trying to initiate you paying attention to him, just cross your arms over your chest and turn your head to the side, indicating that you are ignoring him. He’ll stop then.

Thank you expensive dog behaviorist for all that advice.

Otherwise, check Cesar Milan on netflix. His stuff really does work.

I can’t help but laugh - she really is so damn cute that it’s hard to be mad at her. (a puppy who loves handknit items is endearing!) The socks look fairly easy to fix, and the story alone makes them survivors.

(good work with the Dale and congrats on getting this far with the knitting from stash; I can’t wait to see all of the colors come together….)
