I was a little shocked when I heard it on NPR; I hadn’t known that she had cancer. Fresh Air tonight had some clips from a couple of interviews that Terri Gross had done with her in ‘99 and ‘03.

very sad. it’s so banal to say about someone known for her wit, but she really did break the mold.
